Scientific Nutrition Information

A few federal websites contain much scientific nutrition information.

  • Nutrition.gov: "the US federal guide offering access to all government web sites with reliable and accurate information on nutrition and dietary guidance"
  • MedlinePlus: a service of the US National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) 
  • "Nutrition": a website of the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

General Nutrition Information

The Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion and the US Department of Health and Human Services (USDHHS) generate the Dietary Guidelines for Americans every 5 years.

MyPlate "provides practical information to individuals, health professionals, nutrition educators, and the food industry to help consumers build healthier diets with resources and tools for dietary assessment, nutrition education, and other user-friendly nutrition information."

SuperTracker is the "USDA's tool to help plan, analyze, and track their diet and physical activity. Find out what and how much to eat, how to track foods, physical activities, and weight, and how to personalize with goal setting, virtual coaching, and journaling."

Nutrition Professionals

The Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics is "the world's largest organization of food and nutrition professionals." Here is the Academy's guide to becoming a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.

Other societies of nutrition professionals exist. A few include: the Society of Nutrition Education & Behavior and the International Society for Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity.
